Traditional Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most widely used approaches to health care. Through the use of tiny needles inserted beneath the skin, acupuncture treatments are designed to support the unique constitution within each individual, unleashing the body's natural capacity to heal. This ancient medicine, practiced for over 5000 years, is rooted in the laws of nature, the movement of the seasons and the relationship between the mind, body and spirit. Within each of us lies the playfulness of summer, the deep stillness of winter, the creative force of springtime and the awe inspiring letting go of autumn. I am committed to helping you learn more about your innate nature, your gifts and your challenges, and the ease and wellness that comes with finding balance.

Acupuncture focuses on restoring and maintaining an individual’s life force or energy, known as “qi” (pronounced “chee”). “Qi” flows through the body in channels called meridians. Wellness is associated with the free movement of "qi", whereas illness is associated with blocked or stagnant "qi.  Physical and emotional trauma, the stress of our fast paced lifestyles as well as poor dietary choices, exercise and sleep practices can all result in an imbalance of “qi”.

Treatments

The symptoms that have brought you to acupuncture are your greatest teachers. Just as the “check engine” light in your car calls your attention to a malfunction in your vehicle, your body “makes noise” to alert you of an internal imbalance. These symptoms not only give me insight to create a custom treatment plan for you, but also invite you to explore a deeper mindfulness of your own body.

Throughout your time in treatment, we will pick several symptoms to monitor. Together we will observe their movement; when you notice them and when they are no longer present. We will also identify lifestyle changes that can support your body in healing.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Acupuncture in 2008 from Maryland’s Tai Sophia Institute, the first accredited acupuncture school in the country. I have been treating patients for nearly 20 years and continue to marvel at the transformative and healing nature of this ancient medicine.

Prior to immersing myself in the world of Chinese medicine, I worked in the field of experiential education, guiding both teenagers and adults on expeditions as well as directing a youth adventure travel program. The daily challenges of these experiences allowed me to grow in my ability to motivate and inspire people.  Time and again I've witnessed the confidence of individuals shift with each struggle, effort and ensuing accomplishment.  While this process is a primary focus of experiential education programs, I believe it is the undercurrent that creates the potential for personal growth in our daily lives.  By developing the self-awareness to move through life mindfully, each of us is able to design a life of greater ease.

I am delighted to bring my passion for adventure and personal growth to my work in the treatment room.  I am committed to helping you learn more about your innate nature, your gifts and your challenge and the wellness that comes with finding balance.
